Still sick!

We're still sick over here:( having a little boost of vitamin c! The first few weeks of breastfeeding I was drinking orange juice with my breakfast in the morning! Baby was having projectile spit up until I read that the acid can be to hard on newborns tummies! She stopped when I stopped eating citrus fruits!

After having my lemon water yesterday she was fine so I'm praying she will be okay after this delicious orange!!

Sick, sick, sick!!!

Okay so I thought being sick when I was pregnant was terrible... Sick while you are nursing and have a little one to take care of is definitely worse! About a week ago my fiancé got sick... Fever, chills, congestion... I took care of him but avoided touching him or anything he touched! He didn't hold baby at all and I lysol'd like we had the plague in our home! A few days later baby slept for about 4 hours(her napping that long is unheard of!) then she was all stuffed up! Great! Luckily she hasn't had a fever just stuffed up!

Now I knew even though I had disinfected the house a thousand times and used hand sanitizer after I touched anything ... I was going to get it eventually. I'm very unlucky when it comes to staying healthy! I catch almost any sickness anyone has... I had mono twice... I didn't even think that was possible! So when I woke up yesterday freezing my butt off snuggled next to two dogs and a baby under a down comforter I knew I had a fever! 100.9*... Not too bad but I felt terrible! So I got to researching what to do for a fever and sinus congestion(I knew it was just around the corner) while breastfeeding!

Now I'm one I those people who doesn't do something if there are risks involved. When I was pregnant I didn't eat anything that I wasn't supposed to(except sushi...only cooked shrimp or chicken:)) the first thing I asked for after I delivered the little one was a turkey sandwich! Yum! The only medicine I took during my pregnancy was Tylenol when I had shingles, yes I'm 24 and I got shingles when I was pregnant! Ridiculous I know! I also took some anti viral medication that was safe for baby to get rid of the shingles! But other than that I just suffered through any sickness I got medication free! So now that I'm nursing medications can have even more of an effect on baby's mood, behavior, and development! Now I'm not saying that if you take medication that your doctor says is safe is a bad thing to do, nor am I saying I'm a better mother for not taking them. It's just my way of handling my sickness! Plus if my 7 week old baby cant take cold medicine then i think i can tough it out too! You don't have to feel completely terrible without taking medicine though!

If baby is congested make sure you have a saline solution like the little remedies saline drops/spray and a bulb syringe or other form of nasal aspirator, and a humidifier! Take their temp often to make sure they don't have a fever!

Now if you have a fever take the lowest dosage of ibuprofen. I took one and in about 20 minutes my temp went down to 98.9 from 100.9! One of the most important things when your nursing is to stay hydrated! For me it's very hard to drink water when I'm congested! It seriously makes me nauseous! So I had my fiancé get me some Gatorade that I water down a little bit just so I can get myself to drink more! There are teas that you can drink that have herbs that are safe while breastfeeding but its much cheaper to drink hot water with lemon and honey! Plus the lemons have extra vitamin c for you and the honey makes your throat feel a little better! If you are super congested you can use some of that saline spray you bought for baby! I like taking hot showers when i'm sick, to help baby's congestion I put her in her bouncer and close the bathroom door with the vent off while I take a shower so the steam breaks up some of her mucus. Last but very important rest! As much as you can, REST!

kellymom.com has a lot of information on what is and isn't safe while breastfeeding if you want to take some medicine:)

I hope this helps next time you're sick! I pray you do not get this disgusting flu that's going around!

Love and peace,

What is 'Mommy Tested'?!

Hellooooooo Everyone!

First blog post from MOMMY TESTED! Whoop whoop! So since this is my first post I want to tell you a little bit about why I decided to even start this blog shtuff! Lets start off with a little bit about Moi!

I am a new mommy to an amazing 2 month old little girl! I am truly living my dream now. Seriously my whole life all I wanted to be was a mom. When the question was asked 'what do you want to be when you grow up?' I always replied with "A Mom!" or a marine biologist but that's just because I liked Free Willy... a lot! After realizing that a marine biologist doesn't just get to swim with whales and dolphins  I decided to focus on everything child development related. My whole life all of my jobs have consisted of working with kids. I started out as a babysitter, then taught swim lessons, then worked at a daycare, and I've been a live-in and live-out Nanny. I pretty much revolved my life around kids before I even thought of having my own. So you can imagine how excited I was when I knew I was actually going to be a mom. I thought once she was here everything would be easy peas-y lemon squeeze-y... for the most part it has been! However ,even with all my experience, there are so many things that have popped up that I never would have thought about. There are so many questions I have had in the short time I've been a mom. So I thought... I know there are other new moms out there who are just like me... or even more clueless:) who have tons of questions and are searching the Internet going through mommy forum after mommy forum trying to figure out if they need to get to the hospital at Nascar speeds or just take a second to chill and realize everything is a-okay!

So after 2 months of researching the heck out of many questions I have had I decided to start a blog! I am stating now just to clear up any confusion... I AM NOT AN EXPERT! I am a mom of a 2 month old, I want whats best for her, I want to keep myself and my family healthy, and I want to share with you what I've learned!

I will post periodically about situations I have gone through and what I did to help get through them, products that I have tried and LOVED.. and hated, and an occasional healthy recipe here or there! I know this Blog will evolve into exactly what its supposed to be! So if at first it seems a little all over the place, please have patience and grow and learn with us... especially if you are a new mom like myself! If you have anything to add or questions please feel free to comment, just remember to be considerate to others opinions and feelings!

 Thank You for reading!!

Love and Peace,

Michele
